Wild Day at the Fort for O’Dowd Mountain Bike Team

The O’Dowd Mountain Bike team raced at Fort Ord in Monterey County for the second time this season on March 24. The race course was similar to Race #1, but with a few additional twists and turns and an extra 1.5 miles added to each lap!

The day started off in bright sunshine for the O’Dowd girls. In the JV category it was Elise Cypher ’19 who topped the Dragon squad in 18th place, followed by Charlotte Low ’18 in 24th, Mia Rahman ’19 in 28th, and Bella Walters ’19 coming off the flu in 33rd. In the freshman race, Lily O’Hare ’21 continued her strong season with another 3rd place finish.

On the boys’ side, Matthew Justice ’20 had the standout performance of the race. He jumped up to finish in 6th place, one step off the podium. The varsity men were greeted at the start line with a torrential downpour. But no matter the weather they were off and for several laps senior Caleb O’Hare ’18 hung close to the front group falling back near the end to finish in 9th place on the day. Andrew Fee ’21 missed this race to attend the 9th grade science trip to Belize.

The Dragons finished the day in 9th place and are sitting in 7th place overall in the South Conference.

Next up for the Dragons is Race #4, set for April 15 at Granite Bay in Folsom, California.
