Learn how to help your teen talk about identity and cultural difference. One of the most cherished elements of our school Charism is our call to Community in Diversity. As part of our Multicultural Week offerings, our Partners in Parenting Parent Education series will host a workshop for parents. Joel Brown and Jared Karol of Third Story Revolution will lead a workshop designed to build community through dialogue, to help parents in becoming more aware of cultural differences, and to help parents help their teens more successfully manage cultural differences.
Too often, people are reluctant to discuss important issues of identity, race, and other cultural differences with one another. This lack of dialogue perpetuates tribalism and self-segregation, minimal fluency to engage with the issues, and misunderstandings between people from different backgrounds. But it doesn’t have to be that way. By creating a safe space to navigate the issues, and by providing tangible frameworks that help build comfort, competence, and courage, ThirdStory empowers people to own their personal identity stories, connect and empathize with the lived experience of others, engage in meaningful conversation, and build inclusive communities of belonging together.
