Enhancements to Learning and Culture Initiated

There was a whirlwind of activity on the Bishop O’Dowd High School campus over the summer, with several significant school facilities improvements completed that enhance the quality and functionality of our campus.

  1. The Burke Family Library now offers expanded space and seating including a soundproofed glass study room, and is equipped with upgraded furniture and lighting. About 100 students will be able to work in the library during their Flex Periods. Additionally, outdated print materials have been replaced with digital versions creating more space for students to read and study.

  1. The area around the Center for Environmental Studies now features additional outdoor shaded table seating and sail-like shade tents over the amphitheater, allowing for protected student study and gathering spaces for before and after school and lunch periods.

  1. Twenty new doors were installed throughout the campus to improve security and access.

  2. Old single-pane windows in the counseling and business offices in Dominican Hall were replaced with double-pane windows.

In addition, several major enhancements to learning and culture are being introduced in 2017-2018, including stronger parent-school partnership opportunities in health and wellness education, revised career and aspirational support for students as part of counseling services, and the offering of therapeutic counseling and assessment and referral availability on campus through Director of Health and Wellness Mark Lederer. These facilities improvements projects were supported through generous contributions from our parent community.
