Nearly 30 student-athletes were recognized for their commitment and dedication to the O’Dowd Strength & Conditioning Program last week and received Strength & Conditioning Team Leader Awards.
Team Leader awardees, listed by sport, included Jessica Gonzalez, Samantha Gonzalez, Shariyf Mayer, Jennica So, Layla Scott (women’s rugby); Walter Garner, David Rosario, Andrew Crudo (men’s rugby); Manuel Urgellas, Jelani Warren and Jason Brown (men’s basketball); Tierra Robinson-Jones, Andrew Pike and Matthew Challenger (track & field); Avery Bilensky , Alijah Vera-Tucker, Cooper Hagmaier, Kenyan Branscomb, Christopher Lucas, Joseph De Luca, Isaiah Henry, Michael Jones, Gregory Gomez and Jordan Jackson (football); Ethan Croley (baseball); and Aleksander Bialek (lacrosse).
The student-athletes were selected based on their regular weight room attendance, workout effort, achievement of a personal team or weight room record, and ability to lead regular team warmups, workouts, drills and stretches.
Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Jay Beito ’92 said each of the recipients served as mentors to others and were leaders by example. “They set the standard for behavior and team expectations both on and off the field,” he said. “And by exhibiting leadership behaviors they helped develop a culture for the long term health and success of our program.”
