GREENFIELD CA- The Bishop O’Dowd HIgh School rugby program embarked on its second annual team building camping trip to Arroyo Seco Campground in the Los Padres National Forest March 27-29. This year Coach Lehner and staff took 15 girls and 20 boys camping for two nights.
Camp activities include mostly hanging out together as a team, playing games like frisbee, cards, corn hole and can jam. Nick Sanchez ’18 organized a Can Jam Tournament and this was certainly the Ladies’ year as the girl power team of Eleanore Carper ’18 and Sabine Schroepfer ’18 were dominant running the table on all comers.
Night two was “skit night”, again the Ladies emerging victorious with wonderful impersonations of Coach Lehner and Coach Diskin, by Ella Pashman ’12 and Sammy Gonzalez ’12 respectively.
The menu for this trip included spaghetti and meat balls, Caesar salad, cheese burgers, dried fruit and nuts, cured meats and cheese, fresh fruit, and, of course, enough s’mores for a small army.
“I love the camping trip. These kids are wonderful and being together with no connectivity for a couple of days really brings out their best and funniest interactions – some real comedians in this group, makes for three days of hearty laughter,” Lehner said.
“I typically do not get too sentimental until the end of the season after the last match where you wear your emotion on your sleeve, but some of these seniors have been with me for four years, I am already starting to get sad thinking about them leaving us for bigger and more exciting things,” he said.
