Young athletes present unique challenges to physicians, physical therapists, and athletic trainers due to the repetitive and high strain they put on their bodies during what is now a year-round schedule of sporting activities. O’Dowd head strength and conditioning coach Jay Beito ‘92, CSCS, LAc, will share his expertise at the UCSF-sponsored Pediatric Sports Medicine Conference scheduled for January 12, 2019, at Cal Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
The conference theme is “A Medical Playbook: Managing Overload and Overuse in Young Athletes,” and Jay will present a session entitled “Not Ready for Load or Too Much Load?”
Jay has developed a comprehensive program for O’Dowd student-athletes that is designed to develop proper movement patterns and training techniques by gradually progressing an athlete through a strength and conditioning program comprised of functional movement screening, online tracking of progress, and regular performance testing.
