Dragons for Life – Student vs. Alumni Athletic Games

Every year during the holiday season, Dragon alumni return to the field, court, and pool for some friendly competition with current students.

This Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks saw events with water polo, boys basketball, girls soccer, boys soccer, and eSports. “The Student vs. Alumni Games bring together players across the years,” says soccer captain Sara Redfield. “Our students get an opportunity for insight and mentorship from alumni, while alumni also get to have a mini-reunion with their former teammates.”

In November, current and former basketball players played against one another

Sarah Firestone ’13 is a math teacher at O’Dowd. As a student, she swam for the swim team and played water polo. Now she loves to compete in the Student vs. Alumni Games. “It’s so fun to interact with the students in a different way,” she says. “I love to see their dedication and strengths outside of the academic context. And it also brings back great memories of comradery in the pool with my classmates.”

Connections between our Dragon community span the years and run deep. Says coach Lou Richie ’89, head of the basketball team, “I tell every single one of my players, you are Dragons for life.”
