Jan Coonrod, O’Dowd’s chemistry teacher of 11 years, has been selected to receive a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching from the National Science Foundation, in partnership with The Office of the President. This is the nation’s highest honor for teachers, and demonstrates the truly extraordinary learning experiences Jan creates for O’Dowd students.
She was honored this month at a virtual awards ceremony for her outstanding contributions to the teaching and learning of science. She is the sole science teacher awardee from California. This award comes on the heels of Jan’s recognition as a finalist for the California State Presidential Award in the same category in 2019.
Thank you, Jan! O’Dowd’s students are truly blessed to have you.
