7 Things Tony Green

What inspired you to do this kind of work?

I come from a family of educators and I always respected the teachers and mentors who were so influential in my life.


What is your position here and how long have you worked at O’Dowd?

I am a Social Studies teacher, Black Student Union (BSU) moderator, have coached football, track, girls’ basketball, cross country and moderated Brothers Making a Change (BMAC). I have been at O’Dowd since 1986.


What is the best piece of advice you ever received (generally – it doesn’t have to be related to O’Dowd)?

My dad and mom told me to “Always do your best because you never know who is watching, both older and younger.”


What is your favorite thing about your job?

Being able to help mold the future of the country. The students we touch continually have a real impact on the city, country and world.


What about your field or position do you think would surprise people the most?

I have taught at five schools and I have been at O’Dowd 30 years. I am not that old!


What is the most interesting or surprising thing about you?

The extent to which I read and study everything that I don’t know. And I have known Mr. Mason and Mr Vierra for 35 years!


If you could rescue only one thing from your burning office, what would it be?

Pictures of my family and friends.

What is your favorite kind of music/what are your favorite bands?

I love Jazz, Reggae, old school Hip Hop, Afro Cuban, Blues and Spoken Word. My favorite artists are Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Mutabaruka, and many others.


What is your favorite sports team or who is your favorite individual athlete?

Raiders, Warriors, and O Dowd Dragons!
